Information on Shooting in Springfield Township

 

Tragic Shooting Incident Leaves 16-Year-Old in Critical Condition in Springfield Township SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 12-8-2023- Last night, December 7, 2023, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Springfield Township Police Department responded to a distress call regarding a shooting incident in the 2300 block of Waterloo Road, Springfield Township. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 16-year-old victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was promptly attended to by the Springfield Township Fire Department and transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The involved parties, both students of the Akron Public Schools, were identified as a 16-year-old victim and a 17-year-old suspect. The 17-year-old was apprehended and is currently facing initial charges for felonious assault. The Springfield Township Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident; therefore, some details are yet to be disclosed to the public. Updates on the investigation will be shared as they become available. The Akron Public Schools has been notified of this tragic incident, and appropriate support services are being offered to students affected by this distressing event. The Springfield Township Police Department will continue to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
